How to run a golf league without losing your Sunday

The nine decisions every commissioner makes before week one — and the three that quietly create all the admin.

Most golf leagues die from admin, not from a lack of golfers. The format is fine, the course is booked, the players want to play — and then someone has to text 40 people every Tuesday night.

Start with the shape of the season. Pick your night, count your weeks, and decide up front how many make-up dates you will tolerate. A season with clear edges is a season people commit to.

Then decide how you handle absences. This single decision generates more commissioner work than everything else combined. If you have a real sub pool and a rule about how spots get filled, your week is quiet. If you don't, every Wednesday is a group chat.

Finally, put money on rails before the first round. Dues collected in week one are dues collected. Dues chased in week nine are a second job.
