Twelve league formats that keep a season interesting

Mark Delaney · January 21, 2026 · 7 min read

Rotate your format every few weeks and attendance stops sagging in the middle of the season.

Attendance almost always dips around week eight. The weather is fine, the novelty is gone, and the standings have separated.

The fix is variety. Alternate individual stroke play with two-person scrambles, best-ball, chapman, stableford and a one-club night. Keep points consistent so the season standings still mean something.

Save your most social format for the week after the dip. A scramble night with a shotgun start brings back the players you were about to lose.
